WHY CHANGE OS IF YOU USE WINDOWS XP OR VISTA?

There are companies in which Windows XP or Windows Vista is still used . These operating systems are completely out of date. Updates are no longer being made. However, it is true that many users have not yet changed their operating system, probably because the OS came from the factory and they do not know very well how to carry out an operation of these characteristics.

However, moving from an outdated operating system to one that meets basic security and performance requirements is important. In this post we want to give you some reasons to change from XP and Windows Vista to another operating system, which may well be Windows 7, 8 or 10.

Why is leaving XP or Windows Vista an important issue?

Changing the operating system is not only due to the fact that Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows XP , or that in April 2017 it will no longer support Windows Vista.

Is that other services, realizing that Microsoft is abandoning these operating systems to their fate, are doing the same. For example, Google Chrome also does not offer support for either of these two operating systems .

The same goes, of course, with Microsoft's own programs . Microsoft Office 2007, for example, will also be discontinued in April 2017. This will force many users who are using it to switch to Office 2010 for the sake of their computers' security.

But the thing does not end there either, because really the support is not really important, since many users do not use it. The real problem comes with security updates for these programs and operating systems.

As they are discontinued, users with these operating systems are working with old software, which accumulates security flaws and vulnerabilities, and therefore becomes the target of many cybercriminals . Since there are no patches, or because they are generated by the user community, the risks they present for the regular Microsoft user are high.

Why do many do not want to change operating systems?

Everything that we have been telling is part of Microsoft's strategy to promote its new operating systems. That is not to say that, for example, Windows XP has been one of Windows' most loved and used operating systems, or that Windows Vista has been one of its biggest failures.

Many users still prefer to use XP because it is what they are used to. The Windows 8 interface , for example, can be a bit confusing for the common user. However, we should not be afraid to switch to this operating system, since we can deactivate this function so that the Windows desktop appears at startup, as if it were XP or Windows 7.

As long as we move within the Windows environment , changing the operating system will not change the way we work. We will be able to continue using the same programs and our cloud services will continue to work as before.

Other companies and users are afraid to change operating systems because they think that, in the process, they may lose important files. Or they have a business program installed on the computer and they would have to reconfigure everything from scratch, backing up the database, or reconnecting the computers to the network.

It is true that in these cases operations can be somewhat slow, but it is a computer maintenance activity that must be undertaken at some point. It is much riskier to continue using outdated software, which increases the risk that at some point a computer virus will enter and cause us to lose relevant information.

What alternatives are there to changing the operating system?

Going to Windows 7, 8 or 10 is not the only alternative. In this blog we have also talked to you about the advantages of using Linux in the company .

The important thing is that your computers work in a functional way and at full performance, which will not always require hardware improvements. Also that the users who are going to work with them can know the basic tasks that they can carry out.

Linux has a software center from which we can install all kinds of programs. The Linux community is vast and numerous, although it is true that many software that we are used to we will not be able to use, at least by installing them on our computer.

However, there are alternatives, such as starting to use software in the cloud. Adobe offers users the possibility of working with their programs over the Internet and without having to keep them installed on your computer.

The essential thing is that you advise us on the option that best suits your business. Our IT maintenance service can help you in this task. Write to our contact form telling us your needs.
